How do I wear blazers for effortlessly chic style?
I have fall fashion on mind as the new season is just about here. On my pre-fall want list, there are so many great items—chunky knit sweaters, wide-leg jeans, classic turtlenecks! A stylish blazer is one of my preferred layers. Depending on how you view it, I have accumulated quite an amazing (or embarrassing) collection of blazers.
I appreciate that these pieces may be dressed for anything from everyday wear to a cocktail function. I will talk all about how to dress in blazers today. I’ll discuss my preferred blazer brands, suggest several ways to dress these pieces, and offer my own dos and avoid guidelines for blazer attire.
Favorite blazer brands
Finding the ideal blazer marks the first stage of learning how to wear them. Let us thus go over some of the greatest stores for these kinds of items. Blazer buying is a saturated market with varying price ranges for quality. Here are some of my favorite blazer brands for every budget if you’re a little unsure about where to start!
Veronica Beard
When I think of Veronica Beard, I see perfectly fitted items with a modern, but feminine, feel. Though I try not to be prejudiced, this company produces many of my all-time favorite blazers. Regarding the price range, I think the fit is flawless and the workmanship and quality are really outstanding. Although the traditional Miller Dickey Jacket is their most well-known blazer, they have added a great variety of adaptable designs. For fall, personally, I have been looking at their Lyssa Blazer.
Tuckernuck
Should Tuckernuck succeed, it will most likely find place in my closet. With their in-house labels Tuckernuck, Pomander Place, and Hyacinth House, this brand has been utterly blowing me away, season after season. When it comes to well-made goods under $350 that appear pertinent but not overly trendy, they always seem to meet the target. My preferred Tuckernuck jacket designs are this traditional navy blazer under $300, this elongated fitting corduroy blazer, this cropped tweed blazer, and this trendy new style, which I recently scooped up!
Nili Lotan
About three years ago, Nili Lotan started to appeal to me as a brand quite strongly. And I was sold after acquiring this jacket and donning it nonstop on a European trip last summer. Although they cost more, among the best cost-per-wear items in my closet are these ones. Usually, they are also thicker jackets. These pieces are therefore great if you are seeking something somewhat more substantial to keep warm. I had been admiring this timeless chocolate brown one!
Zara
Curious about how to access blazers without breaking the budget? Affordable yet nice enough to live in your closet for more than a season or two, Zara blazers are my go-to for this. My jackets from this brand are still in my closet, which I purchased about ten years ago! Remember, Zara is quite seasonally sensitive. Therefore, even if their blazer choice is currently limited, September and October will have great options. My Zara blazer collection is really varied in terms of cropped, elongated, fitting, and oversized types.
Other Blazer Brands
This isn’t a complete list, of course, since so many other companies create blazers I love. Among these are Smythe, J.Crew, Avec Les Filies, and loads and plenty of pre-loved luxury blazers from The Real, including this one, this one, and this one.
Classic Ideas & Pairings for Wearing Blazers
After we’ve discussed where to buy, let’s talk about how to dress in blazers for anything from laid-back airport wear to sophisticated evening clothing. Playing with these pieces offers a lot of interesting approaches. One day you can appear stylish and simple with a single blazer; the next day, more complex layers will look great!
How to Wear Blazers Over Your Shoulders
Although the outside is still quite warm, here in Florida, it is usually frigid indoors! I make it through the blast of air conditioning by covering the shoulders of a simple dress with a blazer. This is a terrific approach to “complete” your appearance, accentuate a standout hue, and add some warmth. Here, here, and here, you may find some samples of similar blazer combinations!
Make it Match
Seeking a simple approach for wearing blazers? Choose a set that matches! There are a few different choices for this; I like a matchy, matchy look. You might dress in a blazer and pants combo, a blazer and a complimenting skirt style, or a short and blazer pair. Wearing a matching outfit lets you accessorize more and reduces a lot of the styling guessing required!
How to Wear Blazers With a Belt
Not sure how to wear blazers with a belt? Particularly with Western-style belts, this is a somewhat current trend. To be honest, I have adored blazers in this style for years (see this post from long ago in 2018.) Therefore, it is not surprising that I enjoy the current freshness! I shared a lot of blazer and belt combinations at the start of this year, and I really support all of these outfits!
Pulling off this pairing mostly depends on choosing a blazer and layers that are not too heavy. The belt also should be worn at your natural high waist. This is the most elegant approach I could find to present this look.
How to Wear Blazers Layered
Alright, now let’s get to various layered approaches for blazer wear. First of all, I adore a blazer with a coat piled on top, either a double blazer or. Though I adore the depth it produces and the chances to combine materials, this could be a bit too much for some. Here and here, you can see me sporting one of my best blazers alongside a coat. And in another view, I piled two blazers atop one another. Try layering a cape if you wish to be very creative!
Making these layers work is mostly dependent on making sure the jacket or blazer you are layering on top is somewhat larger, with a very generous gap in the shoulders and crossback, and the base blazer is somewhat more fitting.
layered, take two
Wearing a tissue turtneck under a beautiful button-up layered under a blazer is another quite interesting technique to stack. Though it sounds a lot, believe me, it is not! Here, you can view one of my preferred samples. And if you truly want to take a risk, you may actually stack these bits in reverse order, beginning with the button-up, as seen here.
How to Wear Blazers: Dos and Don’ts
Although I included a few particular pointers on how to dress blazers above, I felt it would be useful to enumerate all of them. Naturally, your own style will determine how you arrange an outfit. Still, these are some of the things I constantly consider while dressing in blazers.
1. Check your proportions.
Once you start laying, this becomes especially crucial. You want to ensure the outer layering pieces are longer than the base layers. You will also want to select skirt lengths and bottoms that complement your fashion up top!
2. Avoid too much bulk.
Like any wardrobe, you want to be comfortable and free from restrictions. Choose foundation layers that let you move with ease and that are not overly heavy. Especially when layering, select finishing pieces with a little excess in the shoulders and upper arm to allow room.
3. Don’t be afraid to play with color.
When one thinks of fall, somber tones and neutrals are the hues most people initially consider. I advise you not to hesitate to explore with colors and combine and match prints, though. In the fall, especially, I enjoy teals, reds, and mustard tones.
4. Don’t let ill-fitting blazers take away from your look.
The fit of the blazer is crucial when choosing a more simplified and traditional appearance free of many layers. Well-tailored blazers without any big draglines, drooping collars, or ill-fitting sleeves are the most aesthetically pleasing ones.
